Stuart H. Sorkin is the founder of Business and Legal Advisors and as an entrepreneur, CPA, and attorney with more than 40 years of experience, Mr. Sorkin’s unique background allows him to assist owners and executives with overcoming the complex obstacles regarding incorporating their personal and financial goals with the appropriate growth or exit strategy for the business. Mr. Sorkin assists clients with the planning, negotiation and documenting all forms of transactional work, including, choice and formation of business entities, raising of capital and financing, mergers and acquisition, real estate acquisition and development, incentive compensation, federal and state income tax planning, succession and retirement planning, estate planning and asset protection, including, trusts, family and charitable gifting strategies and family partnerships.
Mr. Sorkin is also the co-author with Richard Stieglitz: Expensive Mistakes When Buying and Selling Companies … and How to avoid them in Your Deal”. He is a frequent lecturer on exit strategies, estate planning and asset protection to various professional and small business organizations and associations. While Mr. Sorkin was with these national accounting firms, he was frequent lecturer at firm sponsored courses on personal financial planning and federal taxation. Mr. Sorkin also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Jack R. Anderson Charitable Foundation which supports charitable organizations in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area.
Mr. Sorkin is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia. Mr. Sorkin is also a Certified Public Accountant and has a Master’s of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University. He spent seven years working for two national accounting firms before beginning his law practice. During this period, Mr. Sorkin started the tax application software division for personal computers for the national office of Coopers & Lybrand and he became proficient in the use of computers, which he uses to assist clients in the areas of structuring individual, corporate and real estate transactions including capital requirements and acquisition analysis. In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Sorkin has developed and owns several residential real estate projects in the Washington Metropolitan Area and Chicago. His diverse background to advise his clients from a businessman’s prospective rather than just a legal or tax accounting prospective.
